Profile
Whitney Sanchez
Born in New York, NY, to Portuguese, Brazilian, and Dominican parents, I grew up in Queens, NY and later in Providence and Pawtucket, RI. Raised by my single mother, I experienced the challenges of life on welfare and the instability of frequent moves. These early experiences instilled in me the courage to explore and travel, shaping my resilient and adventurous spirit.
My journey into community work began with a deep love for music, collaborative songwriting, and teaching. Both music and yoga have taught me the importance of collaboration, community, and self-inquiry. Moving frequently highlighted the significance of being part of something larger, showing me that we thrive through our connections and mutual support. As a resilient, curious, and creative individual, I find joy in building shared visions and learning from diverse perspectives.
Joining GenUnity excites me because it aligns perfectly with my values of fostering community and providing essential support for thriving lives and communities. With a BA in Culture & Media Studies, an MA in Arts Administration and Cultural Policy, and a 200-hour Hatha & Vinyasa Yoga certification, I am committed to empowering others. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, learning new languages, stand-up comedy, slam poetry, dancing samba, and exploring holistic health, aromatherapy, and sound healing.
