We believe in the transformational potential of everyday people working together to build better communities. We center diversity, equity, and inclusion; embrace generosity, grace, and a growth mindset; and seek to prevent harm and advance justice in all that we do.

Our founding story

GenUnity was created by Jerren Chang and Nimisha Ganesh, who–as children of immigrants and working in local government and K-12 education reform–experienced firsthand how barriers to civic engagement stymie community voice and undermine long-term reform.

Jerren, Nimisha, and team spent 3 years collaborating with community members, local leaders, and civic experts to design, pilot, and realize an alternative, GenUnity. We saw firsthand that A Community By Everyone, For Everyone is possible.

We exist to build a community that reflects our shared humanity, that addresses the urgent issues we are experiencing and seeing in our communities–from housing displacement to health disparities to malnutrition.
